Greetings. I’m Heather Johnson. I launched OutWord Bound Communications in 1999. I help B2B companies—primarily in drug development, medical device/medtech, and healthcare technology—plan and develop technical and/or scientific content. I’ve been turning complex, technical topics into engaging content for over 20 years. My work as a medical technology copywriter and content writer began in 2016 for a global medical device consulting firm. Fascinated by all the innovation happening in medical device, life sciences, and the technology that powers these industries, I made these sectors my primary focus.

Over the years, I have navigated a broad range of topics: surgical robotics, neural interfaces, artificial intelligence and machine learning, SaMD, wearable devices, surgical stents and sealants, and so much more. I’ve written about EU MDR and IVDR, quality management, and AAMI/UL standards. I’ve written about plastic bags and ball bearings. The list goes on.

My clients include global CROs and CDMOs, pharma/biopharma consulting firms, digital health and SaaS start-ups, huge medical supply companies, clinical technology companies, a central laboratory, and many more in drug development, medical device, digital health/DTx, and healthcare technology. I also volunteer with CatTown, a nonprofit that helps Oakland’s most vulnerable shelter cats. When I work from home, my own rescue kitty, Geoff, is usually sleeping beside me. He makes frequent appearances on video calls, just so you know.
